Market place

For visitors interested in architecture the central market square is worth a visit. The big grey building is the city administration and it is called Ratshof. The architecture was quite new when it was built in 1928/29. Halle also had another older city hall, which was destroyed in World War II. Do not miss the opportunity to take a look into the Ratshof, this is really interesting to see.

In front of the Ratshof is the central market square. It is used during the weeks for selling fruits, vegetables, and meat. During Christmas time there is a traditional German Christmas market.

In front of the Ratshof you can also see the Händel monument, which is a meeting place for many people. Behind us is the so called Roland statue. This was the symbol in the middle ages that the settlement is a town.
