The Franckeschen Stiftungen were founded by August Hermann Francke (1663-1727). It was a social support station with schools and orphanages for poor people. Such a institution was quite uncommon for this time.
The building itself is also worth a visit, because it is one of the largest half-timbered houses in the world.
